Why Heroes and Princesses?

3

I've just ordered a three month subscription as a surprise for my daughter. It's a great discount, so I can't resist. Thus far, I can't comment on the actual contents, because nothing's actually arrived yet. But I do have some general comments about this program. Why on earth do you have separate 'boy' and 'girl' options? And why are they called Hero and Princess, two of the most pernicious stereotypes out there for children? No other Geek subscription box does this, with the exception of the Loot Crate Wearable Level Up, which does have a male and female version, primarily because it's stuff you wear, and they tend to fit a little differently for men and women. Anyway, to return to my rant, there is no reason why you can't have a simple Kids box. Children have different tastes, regardless of their sex, and to restrict them in this way is just nonsense. Of course, there aren't any past boxes available to see (ditto with the main Geek Box past boxes, just videos with restricted privacy settings so you can't actually watch them) but judging by the mail picture the 'Hero' box is full of superheroes and space stuff, and the 'Princess' box is all pink and purple Disney-style with a token Wonder Woman Pop figure. If you are so invested in separate boxes, why not 'Hero' and 'Heroine'? I'll be posting proper reviews when the boxes arrive, but in the meantime I've ordered the 'Hero' box for my daughter. She likes pink and princesses, but she also loves Batman, Avengers, and Goosebumps. As far as I can tell, the 'Hero' option is likely to have a far wider range of stuff, and it won't be suggesting her that being pretty and passive is the kind of way girls should be. Oh, and please put up proper pictures of past boxes. People buy stuff based on those.

Awesome!

I've had the kids block from Nerd Block before and was expecting much the same from this but it was so much better!!! My daughter loved every single thing in the box and even stopped to play with them before opening the next item. You get much more in this box than you expect and you get things that you actually can play with! Her favourite was the sonic screwdriver, she's barely put it down!! Will definitely be trying out some of the other box subscriptions Geek Box do!!!

Amazing!!!!

I saw this advertised on Facebook and was wary at first but was I wrong! I bought a princess box for my nearly 4 year old daughter ( she hasn't seen the gifts yet) but there was a draw on rainbow dash pony , Lego set , and some colouring pens and I have to say they all are worth way more than £20 which I was shocked but I over the moon with what is inside the box and will be 100% ordering more and they would be perfect for birthday presents as its a mystery that's the excitement as you don't know what is in the box.

Not good!

June's box is poor! My son really wanted one so I have bought as a gift for his birthday. I can say that I don't think any child no matter what age or gender will like the tea towel this kids box comes with! Why would any child want a tea towel!!! Box contains T-shirt Sticker Crap toy cube Comic type book Metal wall plaque and tea towel! Think any other gift would of been better than tea towel! My other kids all agree it's poor! Subscription now waiting to be cancelled!

Surprisingly Good Value

4

I received my Kids box yesterday, and although the contents weren't perfect for what I wanted, the box contained excellent value and all branded, big name goods. I ordered a box for my 10 year old cousins birthday and in hindsight, she was a bit too old for the contents. However, with a big family nothing will be unused and all of the contents collectively added up to far more than the value of the box. In summary, excellent value for money but much more suitable to maybe a 6 year old in my case. I understand that the boxes all contain different items, and my mistake was thinking that I would receive the items shown in the promotional photos for this box, which would have been much more suitable. That was my wishful thinking and not reading about the product and like I said, if she was slightly younger or maybe even just for a different 10 year old this box would have been great.
